I'm not too picky about music as long as it's something near the rock category. I prefer songs that have both good lyrics and a nice beat or rythm. I personally still don't understand everyone's big obsession with heavy bass, though as a hobbyist bassist I like a good baseline. To me it's more about how the whole song flows together and how all the parts come together as opposed to how deep the bass hits on any point in the song. This being the main reason I normally can't stand rap, that coupled with the fact that rap is essentially pop music, and rap artists don't sing, they talk.

So when I pick a favorite song it something that has everything balanced (lyrics, guitar, drum line, bass line) and neither one really drowns out the other. This is the main reason I don't like rap or heavy metal as most of the lyrics/singing in those songs are/is atrocious, while the music (bass line, guitar, etc) is good. So I tend to stick to music more in the punk/alternative to progressive to heavy rock categories.

So having said all of that a list of my favorite bands.
